how to get web link of a news article of I have its URN?

Hello Team,

I would like to check if there is any programmatic method or API capability that allows us to retrieve the public web link for a Reuters news article directly from the NewsML URN returned by the API.

For example, for the following URN:

urn:newsml:reuters.com:20260312:nL1N40006E

I was able to manually search online and find the corresponding web article link. However, the client’s expectation is that the API should directly return the clickable web link for any news item published in the News app.

Could you please confirm whether:

The API supports converting a News URN into a Reuters.com web link, OR
Any endpoint exists that provides the public-facing URL for the story?

This clarification is needed to confirm whether the requested functionality is feasible.

The news that can provide web links are WebNews. For example:

response = news.headlines.Definition(query = '"gold falls on firmer" AND REPOSITORY:WebNews', count = 10).get_data()
response.data.df

The StoryIDs of the webnews URNs will return 'webURL'.

 response = news.story.Definition("urn:link:webnews:20260312:nNRAzswigw:0").get_data()
response.data.raw['webURL']

The output is:

'https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2026/03/12/gold-falls-on-firmer-dollar-dimming-us-rate-cut-hopes'

However, the RTRS news source doesn't provide the webnews URNs. It is better to contact the news support team directly to verify this. This could be an enhancement request.
