Hi,
I retrieve historical business segment data in CodeBook with the LSEG Data Library for Python, for example:
rd.get_data(
universe=['SIEGn.DE', 'BAYGn.DE', 'GE.N', 'MMM.N'],
fields=['TR.F.BUSExtRev(Segcode=TRBC).date',
'TR.F.BUSExtRev(Segcode=TRBC).segmentName',
'TR.F.BUSExtRev(Segcode=TRBC).segmentCode',
'TR.F.BUSExtRev(Segcode=TRBC)'],
parameters={'SDate': '2006-01-01', 'EDate': '2023-12-31', 'Frq': 'FY'}
)
The segment revenues and names are returned correctly, but the segment code is empty for most segments, especially in earlier years (2005 to 2010) and for segments that no longer exist. Only about 20 to 30 percent of the segments in these years have a TRBC code.
My questions:
1. Is there a field or parameter that provides historical industry codes (TRBC, SIC or similar) for all reported business segments, including discontinued ones? For example from Worldscope segment data?
2. When a segment has several TRBC codes (e.g. "5720102010, 5240602010, 5210203017"), is the first code the primary one?
3. With Frq=FY and SDate/EDate 2006 to 2023, firms with a December fiscal year end return fiscal years 2005 to 2022, while firms with a September fiscal year end return 2006 to 2023. What is the recommended way to request specific fiscal years consistently?
Thank you very much!
