Hi, I am an academic user from a university using LSEG Workspace, and I would like to clarify the data access permissions for textual datasets under our academic licence.
I am conducting research that requires both news text and earnings call transcripts, so I would like to understand which datasets and APIs are available to me.
1. Access to earnings call transcripts
In other community posts, I have seen that transcripts can be accessed through the
Knowledge Direct product in the StreetEvents V2 dataset.
However, I am not sure whether my academic licence includes access to StreetEvents V2 or Knowledge Direct.
Could you please clarify:
- Do university/academic Workspace subscriptions include access to StreetEvents V2 transcripts via Knowledge Direct?
- If not, which product(s) are required to access:
- earnings call transcripts,
- conference call transcripts,
- company event transcripts?
- Are these datasets accessible through any of the following APIs:
- RDP (Refinitiv Data Platform API)
- DSS (DataScope Select API)
- RKD (Refinitiv Knowledge Direct API)
- And do academic institutions typically receive access to any of these APIs?
2. Historical news access limitation
Previously, with the Eikon Data API, I was able to retrieve up to 15 months of news history, but this is insufficient for long-term academic text analysis.
Could you please confirm:
- Is the 15-month news history limit a standard restriction for academic users?
- If I require multiple years of historical news text, which product(s) would provide this?
For example:- RDP News Archive / Historical News
- DSS News via DataScope
- RKD News feeds
- Knowledge Direct historical news
- Are there any bulk download options, academic research programmes, or special access arrangements for universities that need long historical news datasets?
My objective is to determine what textual data—both transcripts and news—I am allowed to access under the academic licence, and through which APIs, so that I can plan my research methodology accordingly.
Thank you very much for your assistance!
