Hi I have some questions coming from a client and will share this Q&A post link for reference.

In addition to using the data in Workspace, I'd like to explore whether we can access it programmatically via the Refinitiv Data Library (Python API), and to be able to run that from a server/VM rather than only from the desktop application.

In my previous contract, Refinitiv were kind enough to introduce their Python team and helped us create some code to accelerate the download process. 

I’m wondering if we could request their assistance again for the above?

Just to make sure I understand what's available, a few questions:

1. Is API access via a service / machine account — i.e. authenticating to the Data Platform without the desktop Workspace running — included in my current arrangement, or is it a separate entitlement?

2. If separate, what would enabling it involve?

3. Are there any IP allow‑listing or setup steps needed to authorise a specific server?

4. Any request‑volume limits I should be aware of?

Workspace Desktop and the LSEG Data Platform are separate products.

For Workspace Desktop users, the LSEG Data Libraries (Python, .NET, and TypeScript) can be used to retrieve data through an active Workspace session running on the same machine. This requires both the user application and the Workspace desktop application to be running on that machine.

For LSEG Data Platform users, the platform provides REST APIs that are accessible over the public internet, allowing any internet-connected machine to retrieve data. Consequently, a different data usage license may be required compared to Workspace Desktop. The LSEG Data Libraries (Python, .NET, and TypeScript) can also be used to access data via the LSEG Data Platform session, or clients can connect directly to the LSEG Data Platform REST APIs.

Clients should contact their LSEG account or sales representative for licensing information related to Workspace Desktop or the LSEG Data Platform.
