Composite and Search API clarification

Hello All,

We have received a question from our client and raised the below two questions:

We planned to retrieve RIC by sending requests to Refinitiv API, specifically to certain API end points which have pre-defined request and response formats. As per our analysis , we have identified 2 API endpoints named Search and Composite, which can fetch details including RIC when certain set of inputs are passed. We need clarifications on those APIs.

• When a RIC is requested via Search API by passing an ISIN or SEDOL of an instrument as input, it provides more than one RIC. Ex: when RIC for ISIN US78378X1072 (S&P Index) is requested, it provides 3 RIC (.INX, .SPX and .S&P500). When the same ISIN RIC is requested via Composite API, only one RIC is sent as response (.SPX in this case). We would like to understand how and why Composite is able to give only one RIC.

• We would like to know if Identifier and Identifier Type are the only input parameters that can be passed as input parameters for Composite API. Can we pass more than one parameter? If that is the case, what are the other options that can be sent. We would also like to know the list of fields which can be requested via Composite API.”

Typically, a single ISIN can be associated with multiple RICs across different exchanges. By default, the Composite returns only the primary RIC, which identifies the exchange where the instrument has its primary listing, that is, the venue where it was originally listed. This is usually the company's home-market exchange. For IBM, the primary exchange is the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and the corresponding primary RIC is IBM.N.

On the other hand, a search can return all mapped results. Please check this ISIN to RIC conversion with the DSS (DataScope Select) REST API article.

In the Composite request, you can specify the source parameter to control which results are returned. For example:
