Hello,
I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I’ve got REDI EMS v22.0.0 (32-bit) on Windows and API access was recently enabled on my user ID for Redi. I’m trying to get read-only Position and Message data working through both the Python API and Excel DDE, but both fail with what looks like the same issue: the REDI COM components aren’t registered on my machine.
In Python, win32com.client.Dispatch(“REDI.Query”) gives me “Invalid class string.” In Excel, DDE Build Links gives me “ActiveX component can’t create object.” What i find odd is that in Excel’s VBA references I can see “Redi 1.0 Type Library” and check it, but CreateObject still throws the ActiveX error, so it seems like the type library is registered but the actual COM class isn’t?
My REDI registry shows COMnoRegistration = 1. I’m using the matching 32-bit Python and running on the same machine as a logged-in REDIPlus. The install guide’s Step 5 points to sftp.redi.com/api.reg for the registry settings, but that’s being blocked by my firewall, and I don’t see an “Install Excel Add-In” option under Tools and Troubleshooting in this Redi version. I also think I read someone else's post saying that the sftp registry settings weren't correct anyways or wouldn't help solve this issue, so i haven't bothered my IT about getting that downloaded. If it is required and the root of my problem, then i can work with them on getting the file.
So, my questions are: Is COMnoRegistration = 1 what’s preventing the classes from registering, and how do I correctly turn it off in v22? Is there a reregister or repair step in the current version that handles this? Or does registration happen automatically once the entitlement is on and I’m missing a client-side step? Thanks in advance.
